[Rumpus in the rainforest]

My little one was in a play last week for her kindergarten class, it was really more a musical than a play, Kindergarten Glee I called it. Hahaha. When the teachers asked me to make the costumes, I was a bit worried since I've never made 33 costumes before! But once I figured out how to make them, I was really lucky to find things on sale to make it all in the tight budget I was given.

The play is about a little frog who wants to see the sky. He has a friend who is a toucan but his wing is hurt and so he can't take him to the sky. So the two friends venture around the rain forest asking for help and advice, the other animals can't understand why the frog wants to see the sky when all he needs is right on the rain forest floor. Finally they run into some shaman in the forest and they were able to heal the toucan's wing with herbs from the rain forest and the two friends flew into the sky. Oh my goodness it was the cutest play I'd ever seen! The kids did such an amazing job, singing their hearts out.

It is right up my little performer's alley, she loved every minute of rehearsals and production. Here's she is modeling some of the costumes. This is a toucan. I found the beak at an online store for only $1.99 and the wing I cut out of vinyl table cloths from party city, which were only $1.69 each.

My little army ant. The helmet I found at Oriental trading co. And the body of the ant my father-in-law cut out from cardboard, and legs from construction paper.

The monkey visor I found at dollartree... love that store! The banana I sewed from felt and the tail I sewed and created the shape from a wire clotheshanger.

I looked EVERYWHERE for a frog visor, but no luck. So I used the monkey one as a template to make my own Frog visor out of foam from Joanns. The frog gloves I sewed from felt.

Here is the cast of 2010 Kindergarten + First Grade, all 62 kiddos! Another super talented parent from the other K-1 class also created the other half of the costumes. She blew me away with her creativity! What a fun project!

Coming from two of the most creative and crafty chicks i know, that sure is a nice compliment. But I know you both would have done just as good, but probably better job! Thanks for stopping by!
